Lizzie Emmons hired as new Jackson Arts Council executive director

The Jackson Arts Council is very pleased to introduce Lizzie Emmons as their new Executive Director. Emmons will start in her new role at the Jackson Arts Council on Monday, August 2.

Emmons is a passionate advocate for the arts with prior experience in arts administration, graphic design, education, therapy, and both music performance and visual art. In her current role as Programs and External Operations Coordinator for the Department of Music at the University of Tennessee at Martin, she oversees all marketing, communications and event coordination for the department.

She is involved with various arts advocacy initiatives throughout West Tennessee.
She is currently the Advocacy Coordinator for Weakley Arts Can and serves on the board of the Northwest Tennessee Arts Center.

She has presented at many conferences on the benefits of the arts including the National Association for Multicultural Education’s Tennessee conference, the Tennessee Disabilities Mega Conference, UT Martin’s ARTStanding and, later this summer, at the Tennessee Arts Academy.

Emmons has a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Science in Education, both from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and is pursuing a certificate in Arts Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

West Tennessee Healthcare – Scott Barber named new CEO at Dyersburg Hospital

Jackson, Tennessee – West Tennessee Healthcare is pleased to announce that Scott Barber has accepted the permanent position of Chief Executive Officer at Dyersburg Hospital after serving as interim CEO since June 2020.

As CEO at Dyersburg Hospital, Barber will be responsible for all operations and overall management of the facility.

Barber earned his Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management and his Master of Business Administration degrees from Bethel University, and has had extensive experience working in emergency management.

Barber is very active in his church and is involved in several community civic organizations. He also served in the Tennessee Army National Guard as a 19th Delta Cavalry Scout.

Barber has been married for 27 years to his wife Kim and has two daughters, Lauren and Grace.

West Tennessee Healthcare – Ruby Kirby named new CEO at Camden General Hospital

Jackson, Tennessee – West Tennessee Healthcare is pleased to announce that Ruby Kirby has accepted the permanent position of Chief Executive Officer at Camden Hospital, which is designated as a Critical Access Hospital.

As CEO at Camden Hospital, Kirby will be responsible for all operations and overall management of the facility. She will also remain CEO at Bolivar Hospital, which is also designated as a Critical Access Hospital.

Kirby is a graduate of Union University of Jackson, Tennessee, where she received her Associate of Science in Nursing, and MBA from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee.

After graduation, Kirby began her nursing career working at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, as a staff Registered Nurse on the General Surgery unit, which eventually led to the position of Director of General Surgery and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

In 2000, Kirby accepted the position as Director of Nursing at Bolivar Hospital where she was responsible for all patient care staff, the quality of care, patients’ satisfaction and regulatory compliance. She has served as the CEO at Bolivar Hospital since 2003.

Horizon convenience store near Ballpark at Jackson sells for $1.6 million plus

Horizon, 340 Parkstone Place – near the Ballpark at Jackson – becomes the third convenience store in Jackson to sell in the last five months.

Willoughby Holdings Inc., sold the business to J&S Food Mart for $1,680,000.

Bemis Square sells for $6 million plus

Bemis Square, 1320 South Highland Avenue, has been sold.

DPP Properties LLC, MH40 Properties LLC purchased the 130,310-square-foot facility from LBD Properties LLC for $6,189,000.

Goodwill Industries and Cowboy Jim’s are anchor tenants in the facility that was once home to Kroger and Walmart.
