Carjacking, armed robbery suspect arrested by Madison County Sheriff’s Department

From the Madison County Sheriff’s Office –

Madison County Sheriff John Mehr reports that Madison County Deputies captured a suspect in a carjacking and three armed robberies on Sunday. The suspect is currently in custody at CJC.

On Sunday afternoon, Madison County Dispatch put out A BOLO (Be on the Lookout) for a white 2021 Lexus reportedly involved in an armed robbery in West Tennessee, near Exit 108.

At approximately 4:45 pm, Madison County and Tennessee Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle near Exit 76, on I-40. After a pursuit, Madison County Deputies stopped the vehicle near 1529 Westover Road.

Deputies, who observed a shotgun in the passenger seat, took the suspect into custody, unharmed, at that location.

Deputies later learned that the Lexus had been carjacked in Huntsville, Alabama, and that the vehicle and suspect are believed to also have committed armed robberies earlier in the day in Fairview, Tennessee and Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, along I-40, as well as Exit 108.

Antonio Carvelle Pitts, DOB June 4, 2001, is currently charged Madison County with felony evading, Possession of a Firearm during a Felony, and Possession of Schedule 1 Drug. More charges are expected in other jurisdictions.

Sheriff Mehr thanks all agencies involved in the investigation, pursuit and capture of this suspect and is glad to report that no citizens were injured during this event.
