Meg Griffin Nethery enters Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame, April 22

Meg Griffin Nethery, who won basketball titles at Jackson Central-Merry High School and Union University, joins Mark Campbell, Jewuan Long, Preston Overbey and Jabriel Washington, when the 35th annual Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame is held April 22.

The 2020-21 event will be held at 6:30 p.m., at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

WNWS.COM – NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & 93.1 FM – visited with Meg Nethery for a question and answer session about her career and selection into the hall of fame.

Question: What were your thoughts when you were told you had been selected for induction into the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame?

Answer: I think I actually laughed. Laughed that the Lord would allow this to happen. Humbled that I would even receive this honor.

Question: Your class was supposed to enter in April 2020, but the pandemic postponed the event. What has the wait been like?

Answer: I don’t enjoy talking in front of people so this was okay with me!

Question: What was the motivating factor in your decision to continue your education and playing career at Union after you graduated from Jackson Central-Merry High School?

Answer: I loved playing for Coach (David) Blackstock. He kept us laughing! I played for Coach (Mark) Campbell my senior year at Union.

In my opinion, Coach Campbell depicts a servant leader; he teaches the game of basketball to his players but more than that, he teaches them how to love/follow the Lord and how to love their family as well.

Question: What is Meg Nethery doing today? Family, career?

Answer: I am married to Damien Nethery. We have been married for 21 years. We have three daughters – Kate, age 14; Ellie, age 11; and Halle, age 7. My husband and I own a business, Hope Restored Counseling.

I have been a physical therapist for 18 years and just started teaching anatomy and biology labs at Union University in the past year. We attend/serve at West Jackson Baptist Church.

A table for eight for the event is $500. For reservations, call Beth Sedberry (731) 616-8558.
