Nashville, Tennessee – Jackson Madison County General Hospital has been awarded a Milestone Award by Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) for their progress in the Safe to Sleep Project. This milestone award is based on participation, monthly data collection including crib audits, and noted improvements in their safe sleep practices.
The Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) is the state’s perinatal quality collaborative.
Hospital teams volunteer to work on projects to improve the care and outcomes for mothers and babies across the state.
“Our team has successfully implemented policy and procedural changes in the care and education of our patients to model a safe home sleeping environment for their infants. During our participation with this project, we have made consistent efforts through our prenatal classes, podcasts and social media campaigns to bring awareness and educate the community about the prevention of infant sleep related deaths,” stated Deena Kail, Executive Director West Tennessee Women’s Center.
The most recent data in Tennessee on sleep related deaths in 2019 showed 103 infants dying due to sleep related deaths. This data shows why it is important for every baby to reach their first birthday by following the simple ABCs of Safe Sleep –Alone, on their Backs, and in a Crib.
“The work in Tennessee around perinatal health has never been more important as we continue to show some of the worst health outcomes across the nation. Engaged teams across the state are showing remarkable progress in changing this tide making Tennessee the best state to be born in,” stated Executive Director, Brenda Barker.
