City Council Approves Budget, Elects Council Leadership

JACKSON Tenn (July 8, 2015) – At Tuesday’s Jackson City Council meeting City Judge Blake Anderson administered the oath of office to the newly reelected city council members. Voters returned incumbents to every seat.

The council approved Al Laffoon as the city’s recorder for another four years with a unanimous vote. Council members also appointed councilman Randy Wallace as treasurer for the next four years, replacing Johnny Dodd. Dodd was elected to be the city Vice Mayor.

In other business the council approved the 2015/16 city budget on second reading. The finalized budget of approximately $64.9 million, is an increase of about $40,000 from the originally proposed budget.

There were a few amendments and council had to approve a draw of about $676,500 from its fund balance to have revenues equal expenses.

The council also voted to keep the city’s property tax rate at $1.96 per $100 of assessed value.
