JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women’s basketball posted a 73-57 victory at home Saturday afternoon against Mississippi College. Union improved to 8-2 overall and in Gulf South Conference play. Mississippi College dropped to 3-3 on the season and in league play.
The Lady Bulldogs swept the two-game set after defeating the Lady Choctaws 81-62, Friday.
Mississippi College jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven of the first nine baskets. The Lady Choctaws held the lead for most of the first period, until Union tied the game at 13-13 with a little over a minute left. Union took the lead for good, 18-17 with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter. Union led 35-31 at the half
The game was close for most of the third quarter, with Union clinging to a 48-47 lead with just over two minutes left. Union then close out the quarter with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 10 points. In the fourth quarter, the Union lead dropped to six points early, but the Lady Bulldogs stretch the lead to 14 points three different times. The final margin of 16 points was the largest lead for Union in the game.
Union was led by Jaelencia Williams with a 20 point, 11 rebound double-double. Shanique Lucas added 17 points with four rebounds. Selale Kepenc had 11 points. Union shot 42 percent from the field, 40 percent (6-15) from 3-point range, and 92 percent (25-27) from the free-throw line.
Union outrebounded the Lady Choctaws 35-34 in the game. Union won the turnover battle, committing 16 to the 18 miscues from the Lady Choctaws. Union scored 30 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, 13 second-chance points, 11 points off the fast break, and 16 points off the bench.
Mississippi College was led by Moriah Hurst with 13 points. NeNe Williams added 12 points. Kyiah Julian had 10 points. Alana Canady led the Lady Choctaws in rebounds with eight. The Lady Choctaws shot 32 percent from the field, 21 percent (5-23) from long range, and 82 percent (14-17) from the charity stripe.

Union men fall at Mississippi College
CLINTON, Miss. – The Union University men’s basketball lost 89-57 at Mississippi College Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs, 75-61 winners Friday, dropped to 6-4 overall and in Gulf South Conference play. Mississippi College improved to 1-5 overall and in league play.
Hot-shooting was the story for Mississippi College in the win. The Choctaws shot 54 percent from the field, including 48 percent (11-23) from 3-point range. MC was 64 percent (7-11) from 3-point range in the first half.
Union never led in the game as the Choctaws scored the first five points and stormed out to a 21-5 lead. MC led by as many as 23 points in the first half before taking a 49-28 lead into the break.
MC started the second half the same as the first with a big run. Over the first eight minutes of play, MC outscored Union 28-6 to lead, 77-34, its largest of the night. MC cruised to win.
Union was led by Justin Debuck with 12 points and JC Clausi with 11 points. Union shot 36 percent from the field, 32 percent (9-28) from long range, and 63 percent (10-16) from the free throw line.
Union was outrebounded 44-25.
Mississippi College was led by Zach Jones with 23 points. Brandon Boston posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Dilyn added 15 points on five 3-pointers. The Choctaws shot 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line.
