From the Tennessee Department of Health –
This document provides information about Tennessee’s planning and implementation efforts for
COVID-19 vaccine allocation and distribution.
THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS
• Tennessee launches registration system for Tennesseans seeking COVID-19 vaccination
• Tennessee makes great progress in rapid vaccination of high-priority populations
• TDH expands the COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Dashboard
• Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey hold tele-town hall with AARP
CURRENT EFFORTS
• Tennessee is well-positioned to provide vaccines to Tennesseans through hundreds of hospitals, health
departments, medical offices, clinics and pharmacies once sufficient vaccine supply is provided by the federal government. TDH has a clear plan for the phased roll-out of vaccines across the state as federal allocations increase over the coming weeks and months.
• TDH is now registering appointments for Tennesseans who wish to receive COVID-19 vaccination and qualify for a phase currently being vaccinated. Tennesseans can register for an appointment online at
https://covid19.tn.gov/covid-19-vaccines/vaccine-phases/. Residents of Tennessee’s metropolitan counties may seek information from their local health departments about vaccination, as their local processes may vary.
• Tennessee is making great progress in rapidly vaccinating those at highest-risk of serious illness and death from COVID-19. To date, more than 234,300 Tennesseans in priority populations have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. More than 73,300 vaccinations were provided in the past week.
• Walgreens, CVS and some local independent pharmacies are partnering to vaccinate residents and staff members of long-term care facilities. Nursing homes are prioritized first, as their residents require higher levels of medical care. Assisted living facilities and homes for the aged are the next priority.
• To date, CVS has vaccinated staff members and residents at 70 Tennessee nursing homes, and Walgreens has vaccinated staff members and residents in at least 150 facilities. Walgreens plans to complete COVID-19 vaccinations at all of their nursing home facilities by Jan. 25, 2021.
• Tennessee assisted care living facilities and homes for the aged began vaccinating their staff members and residents Jan. 13 through the federal partnership with Walgreens and CVS.
• Tennessee was among the first states to add age-based risk as a priority in our COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, and continues to prioritize vaccination of Tennesseans aged 75 and older as they are most at risk for serious illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
• TDH has expanded the COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Dashboard to include county-level data on both first and second doses administered. The dashboard also provides new information on vaccinations administered through the long-term care facility partnership.
• Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey participated in a live tele-town hall hosted by the AARP Jan. 13 to provide information to Tennessee senior citizens and answer their questions about COVID-19 vaccination and the state’s response to the pandemic.
• Tennessee orders every dose of COVID-19 vaccine made available to the state by the federal government.
To date, more than 385,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered to Tennessee providers
approved to administer the vaccine, including hospitals, select pharmacies and all 95 county health
departments.
• Tennessee is one of only six states in the U.S. that has administered at least 50 percent of its allocated vaccine doses.
• TDH holds a webinar for health care providers every Friday from noon-1 p.m. Central time for providers to submit questions that are answered by the immunization program team. Learn more and register for the Jan. 15 webinar at www.tn.gov/content/tn/health/cedep/ncov/covid-19-webinars.html.
COVID-19 VACCINE PLANNING & DISTRIBUTION
WHAT’S NEXT
• Tennessee is eager to expand our vaccination efforts to other risk-based age groups as vaccine supplies
increase.
• TDH is developing new partnerships for community-based vaccination events as vaccine supplies become
available.
