MADISON CO (July 1, 2015) – Non-profits requesting money from the county are supposed to submit an application and go before the county commission non-profit committee. Jackson Downtown Development Corp. did not submit an application so they were not considered.
However, JDDC Director Matt Altobell said that was an oversight on his part and he appealed to the county for a 2nd consideration.
In the past the county has given the downtown association $8,000. This year all but $2,000 dollars was divided between the agencies whose applications were approved.
Commissioners had different opinions as to whether to reconsider. Commissioner Bill Ragon said there were other agencies who played by the rules and were denied, was it right to give JDDC a second chance when the didn’t apply the first time.
Commissioners voted to send the matter back to non-profit for consideration and recommendation.
