‘Dad is still very sick’ – Brooks Shaw updates condition of his father Clark, CEO, Old Country Store

Before those in attendance turned to prayer, Brooks Shaw updated a crowd on his father’s health at The Farm at The Old Country Store at Casey Jones Village, Monday.

“We were encouraged by some different family members who were in the healthcare industry to ask for a second opinion on dad’s MRI that we received (Sunday) afternoon,” Brooks said, “The second analysis is much more encouraging.

“The doctor with the second opinion called Sunday evening and wanted to be very clear he was not giving us false hope or sugarcoat anything – dad is still very sick.”

Brooks Shaw, who serves as general manager of The Old Country Store, is the son of Clark Shaw, CEO of The Old Country Store, who remains hospitalized at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

“He did suffer from a stroke, however, he does not believe he suffered from what he called a quote, “devastating stroke event,”” Brooks said, “He believes it is several different areas of the brain that have smaller impact.”

Brooks said it is “way too early to tell what the results will be at this point.”

He asked those at the Prayer Vigil to pray in three key areas from a medical standpoint – the kidneys, liver and DIC (Disseminated intravascular coagulation), which is where your body sends small clots in multiple areas.

Besides the kidneys and liver, the brain is also an area of concern.

“He is being placed on Dialysis – we were told to expect that – to ease stress on his kidneys,” Brooks said, “Slow, low, efficient dialysis (SLED) – 8 hour treatments basically overnight.”

Brooks said Sunday was a very long day, but Monday was encouraging.

“Things are not over yet,” Brooks said, “It’s very concerning, but we have more hope today than we did (Sunday) and we pray that when we wake up in the morning we have more hope than we did today.

“We understand and acknowledge – and certainly believe the science and the medicine behind all this. We’re not doubting any of those facts and figures but we also believe that we serve a Creator, and a God, who still deals in miracles – and that’s what we’re here praying for.”
