Jackson City Council – property rezoning, budget amendments approved during monthly meeting

The consideration of an Ordinance to rezone property for expansion located at 420 Cheyenne Drive from Planned Commercial District to General Residential District, comprising of approximately 1.65 acres was approved during a First Reading when the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

“Regency Retirement Village of Jackson is looking to expand their operation and they have been working with us for approximately a year to a year and a half to get this project approved,” said Stan Pilant, director of the planning department, “With the expansion, it requires the rezoning of some property to accommodate that expansion. It was approved on first reading … we will have a second reading – then it will be effective.”

The City Council also approved a First Reading for the consideration of Proposed Budget Amendments that included –

$2,515 Jackson Police Department Bullet Proof Vest Grant
$19,127 Boyd Foundation Dog Park Grant
$25,000 City Start Grant

Second Reading

The City Council approved an ordinance to close and abandon a portion of Lamar Circle, and a portion of Rock-a-Billy alley on North Church Street in downtown Jackson.

The City Council approved Proposed Budget Amendments that included –
$38,643 Jackson Police Department JAG Grant
$100,000 Stormwater Operations for North Parkway
$33,970 Jackson Fire Department emergency generator

New Business included the approval of an interlocal agreement contract with Vertosoft for purchasing Open Gov Permitting, Licensing and Code Enforcement Suite Software.

“New technology – to bring city government into the 21st Century – COVID has required us to examine all of that,” said Scott Conger, Mayor of Jackson, “Licensing permitting software that can help our Codes Department, Building Department, building permits, planning department and engineering to do that through our website I think really will help us and the citizens, the people we serve, tremendously.”

Boards –

Andrew Boks, Lauren Kirk, Blake Mascolo, Tommy Rhodes and Melinda Reid were appointed to the board of the Public Art Commission.
Kane Reeves was appointed to the the Anti-Proverty Task Force, replacing Hope Vunk
