Steve Kiner, a former University of Tennessee football linebacker is scheduled to visit with Joe Holloway and Jimmy Butler when ‘Saturday Sports Roundup’ airs from 10 a.m. to noon on NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & WNWS.COM., today.
Kiner – who began his professional football career with the Dallas Cowboys – originally accepted a football scholarship from the University of Florida, but after it was revoked, he decided to play for the University of Tennessee. He was converted into a linebacker and became a three-year starter.
He was named Sophomore of the Year in the SEC.
In 1969, he was awarded the SEC’s defensive player of the year, and in 1990, he was named to the ‘100 Years of Volunteers’ All-time team.
Kiner was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
In 1999, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the University of Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame and to the SEC Football Legends.
