Arson ruled cause of 2 fires, Wednesday

From the Jackson Fire Department –

On Wednesday night July 15th, the Jackson Fire Department responded to two fires within 15 minutes.

Both fires were located at vacant residential properties and located within several blocks of each other.

Arson has been determined to the cause of both fires. This exact sequence of events occurred exactly two weeks earlier and brings the total of arson fires in the area to four.

At 8:02 p.m., the Jackson Fire Department responded to a refuse fire located behind the residence at 468 North Royal Street.

The same residence was involved in an arson fire two weeks prior.

Upon arrival, Firefighters found a large debris pile on fire at the rear of the vacant structure. The debris fire was located close to the building and Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before it was able to spread to the structure.

While battling the fire at 468 North Royal, the Fire Department received a call for a second house on fire at 611 North Royal Street.

Additional fire units were dispatched to the second fire at 8:17 p.m. Upon arrival Firefighters found a
large two-story residential structure with heavy fire located on the back porch extending into the structure.

The fire was brought under control after several hours and all units left the scene at and extinguished by 1:04 a.m., Thursday.

A total of 25 Firefighters, 6 Engines, 1 Aerial Truck and several Administrative personnel were on the scene.

No injuries were reported and (again) arson has been ruled the cause of both fires. Investigators believe all the fires are connected and were started by the same person.

Anyone with information regarding the fires are urged to call the Jackson Fire Department at 731-425-8347.
