Bobby Arnold became the City of Jackson’s city recorder following the resignation of Al Laffoon during the City Council’s monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.
“He’s already doing a great job for us and I think Bobby will do a great job as our city recorder,” said Scott Conger, mayor of Jackson, “He has a plethora of experience in the finance world … understands the bond market and municipal finance as well.
Arnold was named the director of finance, auditing and budgeting for the City of Jackson, in July 2019.
“The plan was to consolidate those positions from finance and budget director to city recorder,” Conger said, “He will assume both positions as recorder going forward.”
Laffoon has called Jackson home since 1978, after beginning his career at McDonnell Douglas – now Boeing.
A graduate from the University of Missouri, Laffoon earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration.
After a 10-year stint in St. Louis in finance, manufacturing and sales, Laffoon took a position as plant manager for ITT in Milan in materials management in 1978, before transferring to Corinth, Miss., in 1986.
Laffoon had been Jackson’s city recorder since 2004.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity – very grateful for the opportunity to serve as the city recorder for the City of Jackson,” Bobby Arnold said, “I was born in Jackson … I’ve lived in Jackson my entire life and I’m just grateful for this opportunity.
“Also, I want to recognize Al Laffoon who served the City in a great way for 16 years and did a great job, and I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot from him in recent months – and I’m grateful for that as well.”
