Business Spotlight – Kim Forbes joins NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM / Exact Marketing

With a passion for advertising sales, Kim Forbes joins NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM / Exact Marketing as a marketing consultant.

Kim’s media sales experience includes the last two years with WNBJ-TV, an NBC affilate in Jackson, which followed an eight-year stint with The Humboldt Chronicle.

NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & WNWS.COM visited with Kim for a Question & Answer session.

Question: First, a little background. Where are you originally from, family, education and hobbies?

Answer: I was born in Chicago. I jokingly tell people that I obviously was brought to Tennessee before I learned to talk. This is a nod to my unusually thick southern accent.

Outside of that I have lived in Gibson County my entire life. I was raised in Dyer, but have called Humboldt home for well over 25 years. I have three sons whom I adore, as well as a precious daughter-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren.

My hobbies include lots of outdoor activities, cooking and baking. Feeding people brings me great joy! Most weekends inevitably will include time with family and friends because I do so enjoy time with both.

I still attend church in Dyer and that means on Sundays, I get to spend time with my mother and other family members who reside in Dyer.

Other involvements include being a board member of the the West Tennessee Homeschool Association, a Junior Auxiliary of Humboldt member and an individual member of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.

Question: You have a background in sales with the Humboldt Chronicle. How long did you work for the Chronicle and when did you decide you wanted a career in advertising sales?

Answer: I worked for the Humboldt Chronicle for over eight years. I kind of “fell” into sales there and loved every single minute of it.

While I have dabbled in sales a few times before that, I had never set out to definitively work in sales until my last position.

For me, it all begins with my love for community. If you have a heart for people, and in this line of work, their businesses, sales is rewarding as you learn about the people behind the business and then bring them solutions to drive results.

Question: What attracted you to NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM?

Answer: News/Talk 101.5 FM is the definition of community.

For many years now I’ve kept the WNWS Facebook page marked as “see first” because I, like thousands of others in our area, count on WNWS to bring me the must know information for Jackson and West Tennessee.

With that thought plus knowledge of longevity of the relationships WNWS has with their clients that I have heard advertising year in and year out convinced me this is a good fit.

Question: How does Kim Forbes motivate herself?

Answer: Please don’t laugh at this answer. I do the “things” that a lot of sales people do.
I have my quiet time in the morning before the business of the day begins. I listen to podcasts that are motivational and informative during a lot of my drive time.
But, the greatest thing, and I count it as a gift granted to me, I wake up each morning optimistic and ready to see what the day will bring.

Question: What do you enjoy the most about advertising sales?

Answer: What I enjoy the most is the interaction with clients and prospects. I’m curious by nature and this lends itself well to my work as I need to ask questions in order to make great tactic/strategy recommendations.

I get paid to do something that comes quite naturally to me. I’m one of those fortunate people who get to say, “I’ve found the work, which if money were not a factor, I’d do for free!”
