The possibility of being one of 40-plus Minor League Baseball teams eliminated after the 2020 season is not the only concern that remains in the balance for the Jackson Generals – the Southern League’s Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Southern League’s All-Star Game, scheduled for The Ballpark at Jackson, June 23, is the only mid-season classic in Double-A that has not been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Double-A All-Star games in the Eastern League – scheduled for Binghampton, New York, and Amarillo of the Texas League – were canceled April 24.
According to Andrew Chapman, broadcaster and media coordinator for the Jackson Generals, the club has not heard from anyone from the Southern League about the All-Star Game.
In 2019, Major League Baseball proposed cutting 42 affiliates, including Double-A teams in Binghamton, New York, and Erie, Pennsylvania, along with Chattanooga and Jackson.
