The Jackson-Madison County Library will remain closed at both its locations until further notice to limit potential community spread of COVID-19.
During the closure, library patrons should keep items currently checked out until JMCL reopens. All due dates have been extended until May 1 and JMCL is waiving all late fees.
“Due to the request of our Governor, Mayors and county health department to limit the number of people gathering at one place to 10 or less for non-essential businesses, the library will remained closed until we are deemed safe to reopen,” said Dinah Harris, library director.
Patrons are encouraged to use JMCL’s online resources and services. The library has set up a special page on its website for information regarding the library, ways you can still use library resources from your home, as well as links to local, state and federal agencies. The library will also update its social media channels with links to online resources.
Library staff have been working from home creating engaging online content for the library’s Facebook page, including storytimes and activities for children.
Anyone with a library card can access hundreds of thousands of books, audiobooks, magazines and streaming video using the Overdrive or Libby apps for Tennessee READS, as well as the newest streaming service, hoopla.
Instructions for using those resources are also on the library’s website and staff have created video tutorials on Facebook.
Anyone who lives, works, owns property or goes to school in Madison County who does not have a library card can receive an ecard by calling the library, messaging the library page on Facebook or submitting an ecard request on the library’s website.
The library’s free WiFi is available 24/7 outside the building at the Main Library and North Branch.
While the library is closed, phones will be answered Mon. through Fri. from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., at 731-425-8600. For more information, visit the Library’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/JMCLibrary or its website at www.jmclibrary.org.
