County Commission Approves A New Civil Service Policy

MADISON Co, Tenn. (May 19, 2015) – At May’s Madison County Commission the legislative body approved a new civil service policy for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

It was first approved in December by the commission, then sent to the state legislature and governor for approval.  the legislation was carried by House Rep Jimmy Eldridge and Senator Ed Jackson.

Sheriff John Mehr worked with the county law enforcement committee to establish the new policy.  Mehr says the policy is more in line with the state’s policy and has clearer guidelines regarding things like discipline, tenure, and other employment issues.

On Monday the local legislators approved  required second reading. The new policy takes effect immediately.
