“Won’t be building any new schools”…county commission

After much discussion, debate, and multiple amendments the motion to pass a $100 wheel tax for Madison County has failed.

At the county commission meeting this morning the vote on the wheel tax did not pass, with the vote 12-11-1.

Chairman Gary Deaton said, “Well, we won’t be building any new schools.”  At stake was the public-private partnership for  J-C-M and Madison Academic plus additional funding for a new Pope Elementary.

In other action the Madison County Commission accepted the resignation of Morris Merriweather from the Jackson-Madison County Board of Education.
