Toyota announces new name for Jackson manufacturing facility

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Toyota Bodine Aluminum, which manufactures about 2.2 million engine blocks and transmission cases at its Jackson facility each year, has a new name – Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee.

“Our team members are excited to officially take on the Toyota name and proud to say “Toyota manufacturing in North America starts with us,”” Wes Woods said, “Engine blocks are the heart of the car, and as we like to say, the heart of Toyota, our team members are truly the heart of our company.”

Wes Woods is the president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee.

Woods also announced a $20,000 donation to support STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in the Jackson-Madison County School System, and a $10,000 donation for the West Tennessee STEM Hub.

“By investing in STEM education today, we’re helping to develop the future Toyota team members that will keep us on the leading-edge of our industry,” Woods said, “But, today is really about our team member pride. The TMMTN name will help us recruit top talent.”

Woods said Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee is in need of seven additional skilled maintenance and die maintenance members.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee produces 4-cylinder engine blocks for Camry, Corolla, RAV4 and V6 engine blocks for, Camry Highlander, Sienna, the Tacoma pickup and the Lexus ES and Lexus RX, and the V8 engine block for Sequoia SUV and Tundra truck.

Team members also manufacture automatic transmission cases and housings for Avalon, Camry, Lexus RX 350 and Sienna.

The change in name comes less than one year after the company announced a $50.1 million investment, which will add 15 percent – or an additional 65,000-square-feet to the plant’s existing facility at 301 James Lawrence Road, near the Airport Industrial Park.

The expansion also means an additional 13 jobs.
