A maximum grant of $913,181 has been approved for a McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport project to impact job creation and investment opportunities in Tennessee’s aviation industry.
The 2020 Aeronautics Economic Development Fund grant award provides funding for economic development projects for aviation facilities which are critical to the economic development of communities across the state.
The Economic Development Department Grant awarded to McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport from The State of Tennessee will be used to aid in job creation.
McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport applied for this grant in November 2019, to help in the development of existing infrastructure.
The airport plans to add 2,000 square feet of office space to an existing hangar, as well as a parking lot and additional improvements.
“This is an important time for Jackson’s airport,” Steve Smith, executive director, McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, “The grant in the amount of $913,181 will allow McKellar-Sipes to attract a major aircraft repair facility. This will increase traffic and create 20-to-30 highly technical jobs.”
Construction is expected to begin in May.
