JACKSON, Tenn — The Jackson-Madison County School System’s “Vision 2020” plan is another phase along in the process.
Three possible restructuring plans were presented Monday night at the first of six planned community forums.
The plans each would close at least four schools however up to seven could be re-purposed for other uses. Presenters emphasized these are only conceptual plans and no decisions have been made. Any Decisions are not expected before December 2015.

JMCSS Vision 2020 Preliminary Concepts
The three concepts were generated for discussion and feedback by the public and will help shape alternatives that will be considered in the fall. The first two are based upon a community schools concept where neighborhoods remain together and students generally attend the facilities closest to their homes. The third concept tests extension of the K-8 model throughout the system.
Concept A — Community Schools Constrained
Impacts
- Allows consolidation of two elementary schools (Beech Bluff and Alexander or Lincoln)
- Allows consolidation of one middle school (potentially Tigrett)
- Allows consolidation of one high school (potentially JCM or re-purpose JCM as a magnet school or University School in coordination with Lane College)
Highlights
- Generally creates more community-based schools
- Provides a more direct feeder pattern between elementary school and middle school.
- Least favorable option in terms of realizing efficiencies
Concept B — Community Schools Unconstrained
Impacts
- Allows consolidation of up to five elementary schools (Alexander or Lincoln, Beech Bluff, East, Malesus or South, and Nova)
- Re-purposes two middle schools as elementary schools (Northeast and Rose Hill)
- Re-purposes JCT, Bemis and Liberty as middle schools
- Moves Montessori school to Tigrett
- Allows consolidation of one middle school (West)
Highlights
- Creates more community-based schools
- Provides direct feeder pattern from elementary to middle to high schools in all 3 clusters
- Maximizes the efficiency and utilization of school facilities
Concept C — K-8 Schools
Impacts
- Provides K-8 facilities for south, east and north Madison County (Denmark, Bemis, South, Rose Hill, Pope, Thelma Barker, Northeast, and East)
- Provides primary (K-4) and intermediate (5-8) schools for central Jackson (Lane/JCT, Arlington/Tigrett, and Andrew Jackson/North Parkway)
- Allows consolidation of five elementary/middle schools (Beech Bluff, Lincoln, Malesus, Nova, and West)
- Moves Montessori school to Alexander
