JACKSON, Tenn (May 4, 2015) – Police are monitoring 18 cameras from one central location that target of Jackson’s most high crime areas

Chief Julian Wiser says it is one more tool police have to catch criminals.

Large screen monitors are set up at the Jackson Police new operations support center, formerly and conference room. Wiser says there is still work to be done.

Wiser says the officers watching are looking for anything suspicious “We’re looking for large crowds gathering, any kind of activity that may indicate a fight or anything associated with drug activity,” said Wiser.

According to Chief Wiser the officers are also watching for crime patterns or criminal behavior “If we see an uptick in crime in a particular district, we’re going to have a mapping system so they can move resources
to that area”.

Wiser said the department hopes to add more cameras in the future.
