The Jackson Fire Department announces a smoke alarm canvas from 9 a.m. to Noon, Saturday.

According to a press release, the smoke alarm canvas is part of the State Fire Marshal’s Office “Get Alarmed, Tennessee” ongoing program which aims to prevent fire deaths across Tennessee through the installation of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

On Saturday, October 19, (weather permitting) a Fire Department Canvas will be conducted in the
area of Westwood Avenue to Russell Road.

The Canvas will consist of smoke alarm checks and FREE smoke alarm installations as needed. The overall goal of this Canvas is to educate the residents about fire prevention in their homes which includes, but not limited to, emergency escape windows, evacuation routes, and plans to make sure everyone gets out Alive.

Education will also be provided to make homeowners, tenants and landlords more knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities concerning fire prevention.

In addition to the Fire Department Canvas, during the month of October, the Fire Department personnel will be attending various schools, businesses and community organizations in honor of Fire Prevention Week.
