Oliver Simmons out as boys head basketball coach at Haywood High

Oliver Simmons is out as head boys basketball coach at Haywood High School.

According to a press release, Joey Hassell, superintendent of Haywood County Schools, announced today that Oliver Simmons has been released from his duties as head boys’ basketball coach at Haywood High School.

Simmons will remain on the HHS staff as a teacher.

Rodney Chatman will step into the role of head coach for the 2019-2020 basketball season immediately.

Members of the Haywood High administration, athletic director Tim Seymour, and superintendent Hassell decided new leadership and direction was needed for the HHS boys basketball program.

Haywood County Schools appreciates Coach Simmons time and effort over the last 16 months.

Coach Chatman has the full support of district and school administration, and the school and district expect a competitive 2019-2020 basketball season.
