On October 1, 2018, the Madison County Grand Jury indicted Madaryl Dewayne Hampton, 42 years of age, of Jackson, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The indictment was the result of a January 20,2018, arrest wherein a Jackson Police Department Officer patrolling the area of 216 Roosevelt Parkway observed Hampton throw down a handgun as he was walking away.

On May 9, 2019, the Defendant was convicted after a one day trial and on July 10, 2019, he was sentenced to serve 20 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction by Circuit Court Judge Donald Allen.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney General Bradley F. Champine and investigated by the Jackson Police Department, with the arrest being made by Officer Terry Troutt.
