Not even a deficit of 3,058 votes could convince Jerry Woods he lost a runoff to Scott Conger to determine who would be the Mayor of Jackson.
Conger picked up 7,397 votes compared to 4,339 for Woods, in Tuesday’s election.
But instead of conceding the race to Conger, Woods announced he wants a recount, something that won’t be as easy as most might think.
“He has to challenge the results in court on the grounds if there is fraud or too many mistakes in the election,” said Kim Buckley, administrator of elections, “We didn’t have any problems of any kind.”
Buckley said Woods had a total of 38 people poll watching at the 19 precincts.
Woods could not be reached for comment, and did not return multiple telephone calls.
The 2019 runoff attracted 11,784 voters.
In the 2015 Mayoral race, Dr. James Baxter called for a recount after finishing third.
Baxter finished with 728 votes or 6.26 percent of the vote, compared to 5,985 votes for Jerry Gist – or 51.47 percent of the vote.
Lowe Finney finished second with 4,758 votes, which was 40.91 percent of the total vote.
