Voters looking to decide who becomes the next Mayor of Jackson were not exactly beating the doors down when the polls opened at 8 a.m., today.
At least not at the Madison County Veteran Services office at 1981 Hollywood Drive.
“We’ve had five voters, so far,” said Peggy Garner, an election official, “The first hour in May, we had people waiting at the door before we opened. I’ve been working elections for about 10 years, and this is the slowest I’ve seen.”
The election is a runoff to select Scott Conger or Jerry Woods as the next Mayor of Jackson.
Polls close at 7 p.m., today.
Conger and Woods received the majority of the votes in the May 7 Election, but neither had the necessary 50 percent, plus-one to win the race outright.
The number of votes for Early Voting totaled 8,222, or 20 percent of the registered voters in the city.
The number of Early Voters in the May 7 General Election was 6,555.
