Karen Bell, who has worked for the City of Jackson for 26 years, leaves her position as the director of finance auditing and budgeting for a similar position in the Madison County Finance Department as finance director.
She begins work in her new position July 1, replacing Mike Nichols, who is retiring.
“I was eligible to retire from the city December 31, 2018, and I was looking for some new challenges and opportunities,” Bell said, “The door opened, and I was very fortunate to be offered the position and hired.
“This is good timing, because it gives the new (City) administration a chance to bring in their people in my position.”
Bell attended her final Jackson City Council meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.
“I’ll pretty much do the same things I’ve done for the city, but it will be on the county finance side,” Bell said, “Of course, there’s a little bit of a difference between municipal and county financing, but knowing the players in the game, as far as the comptroller’s office and some of the requirements – I’m familiar with all of that – so I’m looking for new opportunities and learning new things.”
