MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis police have identified the officer who was shot and who is being treated at a hospital.
The officer is identified as 32-year-old Robert Armour. He is with the organized crime unit.
A suspect has been taken into custody.
Armour was first said to be in critical condition after Thursday’s shooting, but officials changed the report to stable.
He was in plain clothes and following up on a drug and gang complaint at a home. The shooting happened after the officer left and stopped a person of interest.
Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said the officer is expected to recover and has family with him.
Armstrong said that Armour has served about 8 1/2 years on the force.
A large group of officers gathered at the hospital Thursday afternoon.
