John CurrieĀ again is an athletic director at a major-conference school.
According to 24/7 Sports, the ex-Tennessee athletic director, who was suspended after a calamitous search for a new football coach in November and December of 2017, will take over as the new athletic director at Wake Forest, his alma mater.
Wake Forest on Sunday announced Currie will take over officially on May 1 forĀ Ron Wellman, who is retiring after 27 years as the athletic director for the Demon Deacons of the ACC.
Currie has been out of a full-time role in college athletics since his ouster at Tennessee, which became official in March 2018, and had been in an adjunct position and teaching a class at Columbia while also working in a consultant role at Texas.
Tennessee paid Currie a $2.5 million lump-sum settlement nearly four months after he was first suspended by then-ChancellorĀ Beverly Davenport, who tabbedĀ Phillip Fulmer, the Hall of Fame former football coach of the Vols to replace Currie.
