Petition signals Mark Johnstone will enter race for Mayor of Jackson

Five months after announcing the formation of an exploratory committee to evaluate the possibilities of running for the office of Mayor of the City of Jackson, it appears Mark Johnstone is all but in.

Although Johnstone has not made a formal announcement about his intentions, he confirmed he picked up a petition at the Madison County Election Commission, Thursday.

Johnstone is a local businessman and former Chairman of the Madison County Commission.

Dr. Jerry Woods, an educator, Jimmy Eldridge, a retired State Representative from Jackson, and Scott Conger, president/CEO of the United Way of West Tennessee, have announced they will seek the position of Mayor of Jackson.

Dr. Vicky Foote, Jackson City Councilwoman – District 1 – has announced she will not seek re-election in May 2019, but is in an exploratory phase for the position of Mayor of the City of Jackson.

Candidates have until noon, February 21 to turn in their petition for the Mayor’s race, which will be held May 7.
