Madison County Sheriff John Mehr is delighted to share additional good news from the recent “act of kindness” by one of his School Resource Officers, William Haley.
According to a press release, on January 2, a photo was taken of Deputy Haley providing a homeless man at Exit 87 at Interstate 40 with lunch, some quality time and prayer together.
After the photo went viral, it has resulted in what James Walker, principal at Jackson Careers and Technology Middle School, 668 Lexington Ave., calls “A real blessing.”
A Foundation in Florida that supports Law Enforcement saw his sincere compassion and called Haley and asked, “What was his greatest concern for his school that only the lack of money was preventing?”
He told them he observes many situations where the students could benefit from having access to a washer and dryer. He has observed teachers and athletic coaches taking students clothes and athletic uniforms home with them to wash and dry, or taking those items to a local laundromat.
The Foundation said they would provide the funding for a washer and dryer for Haley and the Sheriff to give to Jackson Careers and Technology Middle School, along with some start-up detergent, which was donated by a Lowe’s Store in Jackson, as well as a discounted price on the machines.
Deputy Haley thanked Bobby White’s Basketball Cops Foundation for allowing him to see his dream come true for his kids at his school.
The gift will be celebrated at the school, at 1 p.m., Friday.
Sheriff Mehr emphasized the important role Law Enforcement plays in the lives of our children and their parents and hopes this one “act of kindness” will inspire all of us to serve others more often, and it further demonstrates that the national perception of Law Enforcement is not the same as it is in Jackson and Madison County.
