Peabody High School won its second TSSAA high school football state title since 2014, and its first in Class 2A, with a 17-9 win over Trousdale County in Cookeville, Thursday.
Leading 10-7 at halftime, Peabody scored the first time they touched the football in the third quarter, when Noah Halbrook gathered in a 51-yard reception from quarterback Cooper Baugus.
Peabody’s defense, which allowed a first quarter touchdown, pitched a shutout the rest of the way.
But the most telling statistic in the game was the four times Trousdale County penetrated the Peabody red zone – inside the 20-yard line – and managed only one touchdown.
