Old Hickory Mall Sears store survives after company announces 4 stores in Tennessee will close

Sears at the Old Hickory Mall, 2021 North Highland Ave., was not on the list after Sears Holdings announced it is closing another 29 stores – four in the state of Tennessee.

Sears, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, is closing stores at Southland Mall in Memphis, Northgate Mall in Chattanooga, Foothills Mall in Maryville and Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, in February, 2019.

Once the world’s largest retailer, this latest round of closings will leave the company with less than 500 stores – or an average of 10 per state.

Five years ago, Sears had 2,073 stores, a number that will be reduced to about 1,200 in September.
