In a matter of hours, Bill Lee, a businessman from Franklin, can go from a relatively unknown to the 50th governor of the state of Tennessee.
Lee, who literally came out of nowhere to win the Republican Primary in August, arrived in Jackson at the Madison County Republican Headquarters on Conrad Drive late Monday afternoon, after starting his final full day of campaigning in Johnson City.
Stops included Jonesborough, Knoxville, Cleveland, Smryna and Jackson, before Lee ended his day in Memphis.
“We’re excited, we’re 24 hours away from an historic moment, and we are just so privileged and honored to be a part of that, and you (supporters) have made that happen for us, and by the way, I do not forget Madison County went for Bill Lee in the primary.”
Lee, who said his campaign has made about 500 stops, said he received a text message from outgoing Gov. Bill Haslam, Sunday.
Haslam told Lee to enjoy the next 48 hours, because there are very few people who get to experience what he is about to experience over the next two days.
“We are fortunate people to be Tennesseans,” Lee said, “I love Tennessee, but I have come to love it in a profoundly new way the last year-and-a-half.”
Lee told the crowd at the Madison County Republican Headquarters there are challenges, but it’s challenges that can be addressed.
“Yet,” Lee said, “As wonderful as Tennessee is to live, work and raise a family, we can be even better.”
