Former USJ star Trey Smith out indefinitely at UT after blood clots return

According to reports out of Knoxville, Trey Smith, a sophomore offensive lineman for the University of Tennessee is out indefinitely after physicians found blood clots in his lungs for the second time this year.

Smith, a 2017 graduate of the University School of Jackson, missed spring football practice after blood clots were discovered in February.

He resumed practice in August, but he wasn’t cleared for full contact until about two weeks before the Volunteers opened its 2018 season against West Virginia.

UT head football coach Jeremy Pruitt released a statement about Smith’s situation.

“The most important thing is for Trey to be able to get healthy,” Pruitt said, “He has been an outstanding student-athlete during my time here on and off the field.

Our sole focus for Trey is on his recovery. We are thankful that our medical staff discovered this and is getting him the proper treatment.”
