A new 10-year plan that will be presented by the Jackson-Madison County School Board, when the organization meets at 5:30 p.m., at City Hall.
The proposals are –
A common sense approach to addressing $148 million worth of needs identified by TLM (buildings 30-years old or older)
– Addressing needs that range from new roofing, HVAC replacement, structural reinforcements,
etc.
– Ensuring every dollar spent is an effective and efficient use of taxpayer dollars
– Leveraging offerings and resources of local colleges, universities and business sector
– Thinking in terms of long term, sustainable and cost effective solutions
– Establishing partnership
Measuring cost of repairs vs. replacement of buildings
– Doing what’s right for children
– Community Montessori will have 25% zone component, with weight placed on your lottery status
for possible entrance into Madison Academic
Lincoln to Whitehall and add wing to accommodate 450 students by late summer of 2019
– A portion of students from Alexander will be rezoned to Lincoln at Whitehall in 2020
– New K-8 in northwest cluster in fall of 2020
– Closing of Pope in 2020
– New Jr./ Sr. High School 6-12 in east cluster in fall of 2020 on JCM campus (Public/Private Partnership)
– This will alleviate crowding at Liberty and North Parkway
– Renovation of west side of former JCM campus to house Early College High to move in 2020
– Early College High while housed in separate building will still be a part of the new JCM Jr./ Sr. High School
– Closing of Alexander Elementary in the summer of 2020
– A significant number of former Alexander students will move to a retro-fitted K-5 on the former JCM Early College High campus
– New Madison High School in fall of 2020 on campus of University of Memphis at
Lambuth (Public/Private Partnership)
Completion of Priority Projects 2-5 with remaining schools
– Workforce Development Center (Advanced Manufacturing and Health Science focus)
(Partnership with TCAT, West Tennessee Healthcare, Jackson State Community College, and business sector – site to be determined)
– Complete renovation of North Side and South Side football complexes
– Possible K-8 plan in south cluster (South, West Bemis, and Denmark K-8) in 2020
– Possible expansion of Pre- K program at Malesus
– Possible expansion of Montessori Program at site to be determined
