When the lights go down and the baton goes up on the Carl Perkins Civic Center stage Saturday night, March 7, a powerhouse of talent will celebrate the great composers of the North. The Jackson Symphony, conducted by Peter Shannon, will share the stage with the Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra and include a solo performance by Quynh Shannon, who is married to conductor Shannon.
Featuring the mystical and stirring sounds of Scandinavian composers, the Northern Lights performance will showcase the combined skills and technical expertise of the orchestras and the talented soloist.
Quynh Shannon was educated in Hanoi, Vietnam, at the Hanoi College of Music followed by study in Germany at the Karlsruhe Hochschule Musik and at the Mannheim Hochschuler Musik, where she worked exclusively on the chamber music repertoire as a pianist, collaborating with instrumentalists and singers.
Performing numerous solo recitals in Germany, Quynh is recognized as one of the world’s finest chamber musicians. She has also performed concerto repertoire with orchestra, most recently performing Ravel’s G Major piano concerto and various Mozart concerti.
Shannon has lived in Savannah, Georgia, since February 2007 and is a member of the faculty at Savannah State University.
Saturday night’s concert includes Finlandia, Tone Poem for Orchestra, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A Minor, Adante festiva, Overture, The Herbides (Fingal’s Cave) and Peer Gynt Suite, No.1.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children and are on sale at www.thejacksonsymphony.org or by calling 427-6440.
