A resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of bonds by Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, and the approval of about $1.3 million for the construction of a new Quarantine Center and Animal Adoption Center on Conalco Drive, highlighted the Jackson City Council’s monthly meeting, Tuesday.

The resolution to approve a bond issue will replace and refund some bonds from 2008 and replace some funding for the acquisition for the Tennova hospitals.

The current outstanding debt includes two series – 2008 and 2105.

Proposed bond Issue refunds 2008 Series at a savings to the organization about $800,000 annually, and replaces interim financing for the acquisition.

“We approved the issuance of revenue bonds for the hospital for about about $200 million … this in order for them to do some refunding which will potentially save them about $800,000 a year in interest,” said Jerry Gist, mayor of Jackson, “Also, we approved $1.3 million for an animal quarantine center and animal adoption center.”

Gist said the quarantine and adoption building will consist of about 10,750-square-feet, and will be located on Conalco Drive.

“We’ve been working on that project through a task force for about 18- months to two years, and finally they came back with a recommendation,” Gist said. “(There) will be one building housing the quarantine and the animal center, which I think will be well-advised … just to save in personnel costs and utility costs.”

Also, proclamations were presented for the 35th annual National Night Out and the WoMen’s Resource Assistance Program (WRAP), and Councilman Ernest Brooks II was recognized for the “Do the Right Thing” Challenge Program.
