Historic Greyhound Bus Station sold to Jackson businessman

Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist put his imagination in motion when he learned John Allen, a local Jackson businessman is purchasing the Greyhound Bus Station, at 407 E. Main Street.

“I feel pretty good about it,” Gist said. “I feel good about John Allen, a local downtown developer with a proven track record is the one buying the Greyhound Bus Station.

“The building is unique with special architecture, and it’s great it will be retained, improved and re-purposed in a productive manner.”

Located across East Main Street from the Ned R. McWherter Performing Arts Center, the station is listed on the National Historic Register.

The station is the last Art-Deco Greyhound Building that remains in use in the nation, and one of only three that has not been demolished.
