Montgomery got what it was looking for, and the Jackson Generals got what they didn’t need, after the Biscuits posted an 8-3 win in Game 2 of the Southern League’s North Division Playoffs, at The Ballpark at Jackson, Thursday.
Brock Burke pitched 6.1 innings and surrendered only one run and four hits for Montgomery, which gained a split in the best-of-five series which resumes at Riverwalk Stadium, at 6:35 p.m., Friday.
Josh Prince was involved in two of Jackson’s three runs the Generals produced, when he homered off Burke in the bottom of the seventh.
One inning later, Prince reached first on a fielding error by Montgomery right fielder Jesus Sanchez which allowed Evan Marzilli to score.
If the Generals are to advance to the Southern League final, they will have to win two of the next three in Montgomery.
The Biscuits gave Burke (1-0, 1.42 ERA) all the support he needed scoring three runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Montgomery’s Michael Brosseau picked up an RBI with a single to left to score Dalton Kelly with the game’s first run, and Nick Solak made it 2-0 after Jackson starter Jon Duplantier issued a bases load walk to Nathan Lukes.
Brosseau scored the third and final run of the fourth inning on a David Rodriguez sacrifice fly.
