February 22, 2015 — JPD Officer Assaulted, Suspect In Custody.
According to Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser, they have the suspect in custody who jumped and assaulted one of his officers.
It started when Sgt Mike Thomas made a community stop at the Exxon gas station on Carriage House at North Highland.
Wiser said, Thomas was in the store he observed a disturbance taking place in the parking lot. Sgt Thomas was interviewing a witness/victim when he was jumped and assaulted by the suspect., according to Wiser.
Sgt Thomas sustained multiple injuries as a result of the attack.
At 6:45 p.m. witnesses called 911 to report the attack. The suspect fled the scene. Officers located the suspect in front of Tulum Mexican Restaurant on Carriage House Drive. Â Traffic on Carriage House Drive was briefly closed between North Highland Avenue and Wallace Road.
According to Chief Wiser , officers used their TASERÂ in order to subdue the suspect before taking him into custody.
Sgt Mike Thomas was taken to Jackson Madison County General Hospital with multiple injuries.
The suspect was transported to Criminal Justice Complex. His name has not been released and charges are pending.
