After 28 years of employment at Jackson State Community College, Horace Chase, the vice president of business and finance, has accepted a similar position at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
“I was 26 years old when I was hired,” Chase said, during a reception at the school, Wednesday, “I had the opportunity to serve and work under four of the five presidents of the college.
“I was hired by Dr. (Walter) Nelms , and had the opportunity to work under Dr. (Charlie) Roberts, Bruce Blanding and Dr. (Allana) Hamilton, all have different ways, but all have interest in making the college the best.
“The faculty and staff have always been so supportive, and we all worked well together.”
Chase, who also served as interim president at Jackson State Community College, begins his new position at TSU, Monday.
“He is a valued member of the college, a dedicated employee and a wonderful colleague,” Dr. Allana Hamilton said. “In addition to his dedication to our students and to our college, he is also dedicated to West Tennessee.
“I don’t have to tell you when I say, he will be tremendously missed by Jackson State, and we wish him well. We are just so proud of him, and so excited for him as he begins this new journey in his life.
“He will remain in the state system, so he will become a colleague at Tennessee State University.”
