By Keith Sherley, (February 18, 2015) — It was picturesque this morning as we all looked out on a new blanket of snow that arrived overnight and covered the area.
Temperatures reached 31 degrees but have steadily been declining. According to the National Weather Service we can expect temps in the single digits by tonight and in the teen’s on Thursday.
The snow covers icy roads that still pose a driving hazard so authorities say please get out only if necessary. The more people on the roads the more accidents, stranded vehicles, and other emergencies there are for essential personnel. Officials tell us those resources are already stretched.
We have not had any significant power or utility related issues since the first day of this weather system. In that instance a TVA line disturbance caused outages briefly for over 5400 Gibson Electric customers and approximately 1600 Southwest Electric customers.

Utility officials say we are not out of the woods yet as we still expect freezing temperatures to continue. That poses a threat to trees and tree branches that could disrupt power. They advise that you always consider any downed power line you see to be live with electricity and to call and report the problem.
The hazardous road conditions continue to cause many businesses, schools and other offices to close.
Jackson City Hall delayed opening until 10:00 am, Jackson Madison County schools remained closed for the third day in a row, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Banquet featuring Butch Jones has been rescheduled for March 10th, the Altrusa Woman of the Year Banquet was cancelled for Tuesday night and no date has been set.
