Colleen Owens, a candidate for U.S. Congress – 8th Congressional District in Tennessee – has suspended her campaign, and is urging her supporters to vote for Dr. George Flinn for the seat held by David Kustoff.
“George is the best person for the position, and I didn’t want to be the spoiler who sends (Congressman) David Kustoff back to Washington,” Owens said. “People knew I was the underdog, and they were super nice to me.
“Many told me they admired that I was jumping in for principle.”
A resident of Jackson, Owens made her announcement on NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, Thursday.
“My husband and I self-funded this campaign, and we didn’t have the funds to penetrate Shelby County,” Owens said. “My goal was to do the best I could for this country. I’ve met George several times, and talked with him several time this week, and it made me feel better about my decision.”
According to the Madison County Election Commission, Owens will remain on the ballot.
The ballots are printed, absentee ballots have been sent out and early voting in the City and County starts Friday.
The last day to withdraw was April 12.
