KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A federal judge has dismissed charges against an East Tennessee physician and his wife, who were convicted of using unapproved foreign drugs at their cancer clinic.

The Justice Department had asked that the charges be vacated and said in a statement that it changed its mind in the Sens’ case and is reviewing other similar cases.

The Greeneville couple was accused of purchasing more than $3 million in misbranded and unapproved medications for the East Tennessee Cancer & Blood Center. Defense attorneys blamed the supplier, saying the doctor thought the drugs were approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
