(February 9, 2015) JACKSON Tenn — The former Union University student accused of killing his fiancee will not have his murder trial moved out of Jackson.
On Monday in Circuit Court Judge Roy Morgan ruled against a motion by Charlie Pittman’s attorneys for a new venue where the trial would be held.
Morgan also set Pittman’s bond at $1 million. Pittman had previously been held with no bond.
Defense attorneys also filed a motion for blood spatter testimony to not be allowed during the trial. Defense objects to investigator Ron Pugh’s testimony on blood splatter found at the scene. Defense attorneys say Pugh is not an expert on the subject. The state said it is not planning to use Pugh’s thoughts on the blood splatter as part of the trial.
In February 2013 21-year-old Charles Andre Pittman was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after his fiancee, Union University student, 21-year-old Olivia Greenlee, was found shot to death in her car at Luther Hall on the Union campus. Â Both were students at the university and lived on campus though not together.
Pittman has told authorities that Greenlee committed suicide.
Pittman’s next scheduled appearance is March 16,
His trial set to begin May 12.
