Jackson Madison County School Board members vote to extend Superintendent Dr. Eric Jones contract. Thursday night board members praised the work Eric Jones has accomplished in his first years as superintendent of schools. When he was hired in 2017 Jones was given a 4-year contract, the longest allowed by state law. After the meeting, I spoke with school board member David Clifft here are his comments The first year of that agreement will not be up until June of this year so by a few months the contract will exceed the 4 year limit. By extending the contract after only 1 year the board acted in an unprecedented way. Historically the board offers contract extensions at the end of contract terms or perhaps two years but to extend a contract with three years remaining is something past boards have not done. Dave Bratcher had these remarks. By state law the school board can not extend a contract 45 days prior to an election. 5 of the current members are not seeking reelection in the upcoming August election.
