Dr. Rolando Toyos, a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Bob Corker is challenging the State Executive Committee’s decision to remove him from the ballot despite having met requirements in the Tennessee Republican Bylaws.
Dr. Toyos has issued the following statement –
On the evening of Friday, April 6th, Dr. Rolando Toyos was informed by a third-party person that his status as a “Bona Fide” Republican was being challenged despite having been an active member of the party his entire life.
Dr. Toyos immediately began to look into the allegations made against him by unidentified parties. Upon speaking with Mr. Scott Golden, Dr. Toyos was informed on several different occasions that there was nothing the chairman of the State Executive Committee could do.
This was a direct and blatant contradiction of the bylaws set into place by the State Executive Committee. The bylaws, in more than one location, state that the final decision as to the “bona fides” of a candidate is left to the discretion of the Chairman of the Committee.
The challenge is in regards to the requirement listed in article 9, section 1, subsection B, which requires a candidate have voted in three of the past four republican primaries OR be vouched for by an elected official, a member of the State Executive Committee.
While Dr. Toyos did not meet the requirements of voting in the primaries, he was vouched for by three elected officials, one of which was a member of the SEC.
This fulfilled, in its entirety, subsection C that required being vouched for, thus making him a “bona fide” Republican. Committee Chairman Scott Golden willfully withheld this information from his constitutes and strong-armed an uneducated vote from the State Executive Committee.
The Toyos for Senate Campaign has refused to speculate as to the reasoning of Mr. Golden’s actions but feels as though the optics of this situation will reflect negatively on the Republican party and Mr. Golden if these wrongs are not soon corrected.
Dr. Toyos’ voting record reflects an actively involved member of the party and the Toyos Campaign has willingly released those records to the public.
The Toyos for Senate Campaign will continue to press forward, fight this injustice and campaign in anticipation of the State Executive adding Dr. Rolando Toyos back to the ballot. Dr. Toyos encourages supporters and voters to reach out to the State Executive Committee and Committee Chairman Scott Golden to voice their concerns over the actions of Mr. Golden and the Committee.

Dr. Toyos and his wife Melissa are grateful for the phone calls, texts, and social media out pouring from supporters.
They covet your prayers and support as they continue to drain the swamp in our own backyard.
