We found this story about the Rev. Billy Graham, who spoke in Jackson at Rothrock Stadium, June 15, 1951.
Cynthia Chandler Howell posted this information – and photo, courtesy of Hafford Bryant from Humboldt – on Facebook.
“I was 3 years old. We lived at 815 E. College Street, the third house east of Rothrock Stadium.
During that day, to the best of my memory of my mother’s story, it was during lunch, and Billy
Graham was asked to visit our neighbor lady across the street who was dying.
He graciously agreed despite his tight schedule.
When he got to the house he did not have his Bible in the car that carried him to lunch so he ran
across the street to our house and borrowed ours.
He asked if he could leave it at the neighbor’s house following his visit since his time was too limited to return it to our house.
Of course he was told that would be fine.
At that time we could sit on our porch and hear everything that went on at the stadium: football games, preaching, the Miss Tennessee Pageant, etc.
My daddy sat on the porch and heard his sermon that day. I wish I could remember the name of the lady across the street that was visited and prayed for by Billy Graham.”Â
